This barbute is a replica of an early 15th century original. The helmet offers the face a better protection than its predecessor the sallet. Nowadays it is part of the collection of the Wallace Collection in London.
The helmet is wide evolving and offers both a good field of view and sufficient freedom of movement of the head. The cheek flaps have sloping edges, which will clearly become visible in the later models. This helmet can be fastened under the chin with a leather strap.
