This handmade amber balsamarium is a replica of a 1st century Roman original excavated in The Netherlands. Balsamaria were used for storing perfumes and scented oils. The long neck prevented evaporation so the oils could be stored for a longer amount of time. Unguentaria & balsamaria were used for storage in both the Roman household and in trade. Balsamaria were mad all over the Roman Empire and were mainly used between the 2nd and 6th century AD, but they also already occurred in earlier periods. Product details:
