Middeleeuwse zwaarden

Hieronder vindt u de verschillende typen zwaarden die tussen de 11de en 17de eeuw zijn gebruikt. Volgens de Oakeshott zwaardtyperingen zijn er 26 verschillende typen zwaarden, met allen een eigen combinatie van pommel en pareerstang. Deze pommel en pareerstang had op zijn beurt weer een eigen gebied of periode waarin hij het meest voorkwam. In deze categories passen vrijwel alle zwaard op sommige uitzonderingen na.
Bij gebruik van dit systeem is het belangrijk om te weten dat de genoemde perioden slechts een indicatie zijn waarin het type zwaard is gemaakt. Het vertelt niets over tot wanneer het zwaard in gebruik is geweest.
